Abstract:
Starting from the relationship between the current development of New Popular Literature and Art and historical literary movements, this study examines the intertextuality between New Popular Literature and Art and the “One Day in Jizhong” writing movement, in order to clarify the literary tradition underlying New Popular Literature and Art and to provide guidance for its healthy development. At the level of production, participants in both movements exhibited a strengthened sense of subjectivity in their literary and artistic creation, and this production process was inseparable from specific community contexts. At the level of reception, the intertextuality is manifested primarily in the de-elitization of reception and in the substitution of creation for criticism. At the level of dialogue, the two literary movements exerted a marked influence on intellectuals’ pre-understanding and reshaped the structure of the writer community. In sum, from the “One Day in Jizhong” writing movement to New Popular Literature and Art, a literary tradition centered on the people runs throughout, one that should be inherited and further developed to promote the healthy growth of New Popular Literature and Art.
